Where to Launch Your Kite or Wing in La Ventana
Always exercise caution when kiteboarding in new areas. Talk to the locals to learn about any potential hazards. If you find yourself on an empty beach with access to the water, consider why this spot may not be popular for watersports. Enjoy your time on the water!
North Arroyo
4WD recommended. Advanced riders. The beach is narrow for launching / landing and has a rocky entrance at high and low tide. Watch your step and wear booties! This launch will be the first to get the wind. Parking is limited.
Hot Springs
4WD is highly recommended. Advanced riders. This area can be affected by a window shadow near shore, making launch and landing a bit tricky. Access to this beach is limited by development. Please do not trespass.
Rasta Beach
4WD recommended. This is now a busy spot, but a good one for all levels. This is a great starting point for downwinders for a short ride down to La Tuna or Fig Tree. Be cautious of the wind shadow just north of Kite Planet. Wear your booties and run your lines crosswind. Beware of the reef close to the shore on the southern end of this beach. Start further north to stay clear of the reef.
Kite & Wing Academy Clubhouse
Our clubhouse is located just a block west of La Tuna Grill. Soft sand and lots of beach space. It will be busy, and 2WD cars need to park on hard-pack surfaces only. Rig your lines crosswind and stow foils well clear of the shore. Beware of a reef close to the shore on the northern end of this beach. Foilers should use caution in this area, especially during low tide.
Shuttle Service Available
We offer round-trip shuttle service to any of the beaches throughout La Ventana and El Sargento. You can save yourself the hassle of walking with your gear or trying to find parking.
Fig tree
Upwind riders only, there isn't an ideal area to come out south of here for quite a while. Big rocks are just south of this pin and extend all the way down to Las Palmas. Wear booties! Parking is limited, and the beach is a bit narrow.
Las Palmas
Advanced riders due to water hazards. A few people use this launch for a downwinder rather than a kite spot. There can be a wind shadow right by the shore and narrow beach. Lots of rocks near shore, especially south of here. Get to the outside quickly to avoid the reef near the campground south of here.
Playa
Parking is on the road; however, it can be challenging to find a spot. There is a very active boat launch, and fishing boats have priority. This is a good spot for beginners who are not staying upwind. It's a 20-30 downwind drift to the exit at Baja Joe's. Do NOT come out before Baja Joe's.
There is a wind shadow that grows as you walk inland and another wind shadow on the shore south of the boat ramp.
